Consumers to Recycle Electronics Free of Charge at January 26 Event

2012 e-Waste EventThe Michigan Technology Network with support from Grand River Connection, Power On, St. Stephen’s Community Church, and Retro DC Designs announced today that they will be hosting a free e-Waste Recycling Event from 5:30pm – 8:30pm on Thursday, January 26, 2012.

Would you like to know what inspires the developers that create the apps you use, the games you play, and the websites you can't live without? Have you ever wondered how some products get their start?  Are you curious about the tools people utilize?   This year, in lieu of a holiday party, Michigan Technology Network joined with other local user groups to support Lansing Demo Camp 3.  A big thank you goes to Foster Swift, MITN's December sponsor, who made it possible for MITN to be part of the event.

CNN asks: "Is Detroit the next Silicon Valley?"

CNN Money highlighted Detroit's "Tech Boomlet," asking, "Is Detroit the next Silicon Valley?"  Although Silicon Valley and New York have a larger tech industry, Detroit's tech industry is growing at a faster rate.

In the last year there has been an 82% increase in tech jobs in Detroit and one Ford executive said, "I've never seen so much hiring in technology since I've been here."

MITN Lansing Remembers Ron Choura

We're sad to have lost a loved colleague and friend. Ron Choura was a 1971 electrical engineering graduate from the University of Missouri – Rolla and was active in the government and telecommunications industry for more than three decades. He taught MSU classes for 34 years and was appointed in the TISM department beginning in 1990.  In addition to teaching TISM classes, he recently retired as a Departmental Administrator at the Michigan Public Service Commission after 37 years of service.
